    1898 Krag rifle

I finally took my Kragicon apart to see what markings were on it, these sure don't have many. It has what looks like JSA 1902 on the stock which is hard to read in the photo. I am waiting for it to warm up so I can take it to the range.

Nice clean looking rifle. Love those 1901 sights, wish I had one. I had that on my carbine but of course marked with the "C" and went with the gun when it sold. My inspector's marks are no where as nice. Yup, range time. Don't be surprised if it shoots little ragged groups.

'yoopercollector': That's a nice looking Model 1898 Kragicon that you have. How is the bore?

I am posting some pictures you will enjoy. I am a 'Troll', but, my parents were from the Michigan Copper Country and I inherited the old family photos.

The first was taken at Manistee, Michigan (probably at the 'Camp Bliss' annual MNG encampment, in 1900). My mother's Uncle, Bernard Grimmike, was in the Calumet Company, 3rd. Regiment, Mich. National Guard. He is the first man kneeling on the left with a Model 1899 Remington-Lee. There are a few Krags and Krag bayonets also in the photo. The last photo was taken at 'Swedetown', near Calumet, Mich. in 1903. By then, the Michigan National Guard were armed with Krags.

Those are nice pictures. I,ve been in the UP over 15 years and I'm still considered a troll, originally from Clinton Township north of Detroit. The rifling looks good but a little dark, it gauges just under 3. Hoping it shoots good.

I once owned an almost identical rifle. Stick with moderate loads and 220 grain round-nosed bullets-be prepared to be amazed! The perfected Kragicon was THE match rifle until the post WWI matches established the M1903.

And now I know what the little brass muzzle cover sitting in my miscellaneous parts box is for. I bought it thinking it might be for a Kragicon but it doesn't fit on my Norwegianicon one. I sold my US one a couple of years ago. I was right, just the wrong country..........
