Nomenclature MA means?

Hello everybody,

I am a former gun owner and antique gun and rifle collector, I have a present interest in military binoculars.

It appears to be a very informed site.

I meant to ask does anybody know what the nomenclature MA means or stands for for example;

BINOCULARS, Prismatic, 6x 30, No2 Mk2 V5/OS 106-MA or Mk3 V5/OS 420-MA

When I see MA on something Bren or Lee-Enfield related it means (AFAIK) 'Munitions Australia'. Not sure about binoculars.

I have answered this in the thread about binoculars and other items. MA is major assembly. Some in the Ordnance world say master assembly. It is used as an identifier for items made up from sub assemblies (SA) general assemblies (GA) in what we call the 'indented' system used in the Ordnance VAOS stores system. If you really want to know the actual make-up of the whole part number then it's all here........ somewhere!
