    Any one collect compasses

I collect a lot compasses slowed down since moving to Montana it's hard to find military surplus here. But in Calf I would find them easy from ones our troops used and ones issued to other countries. Well this one I got for 45 bucks at a military show in San Jose many years ago from what I found out on the net probably was made for a Britishicon Lancaster Bomber from WW2 even the packing crate.

Found this photo on the net Lancaster bomber with the same compass.

Here is a interesting one think it was for escape and evasion used for a pilot. Think I picked this one up at the Alameda Antique fair at the old NAS base in Alameda they have it first Sunday of the month on the tarmac about four hours to see every thing for sale miss going to it use to work at the sail loft there when in the Navy and our ship pulled in there once and CHB 3 another unit I was with was there sad to see it closed down but at least the old base is being used.

Here is another one out of the collection a WW2 Britishicon issue marching MK1 compass has a bakelite case when you have it closed it locks the compass needle so it don't move.

    Peter,
Absolutely...........just another unassuming person of age who hid his history and his personal achievements as a true leader. What a lovely guy

Gil, I guess you'd have met him at functions and reunions as well. We had a few here as well...I was lucky enough to have joined while many were still serving.
    Regards, Jim
