Cool Frankenstien 1903a3 (A Black Gun)

A new build FRANKENSTEIN 1903A3 that has turned out looking pretty cool.

First, no Stocks, Receivers or other collectable parts were damaged in this project.

The stock is GI plastic, painted black, the receiver and bolt were a pull from an old custom rifle I have had for years just hanging around and all the other parts are spares from my restoration shop.

So what you see here is a PLINKER assembled for by Brother in-law, he has a very fine 1903, but he can’t see well enough to shoot it anymore, (the ladder sights in all), and he asked me to make him a shooter.

The requirements were; look sort of GI with a scope, (that’s pending) and ship it to him for free as he can’t afford to buy any more guns.

Well since he has been my brother in-law for 37 years and the doctors tell him he has less than 5 years to live, (a lung issue), I decided to build this for him. Heck I will get it back in a few years, his idea not mine.

It shoots surprisingly well for a plastic stock, but it does kick hard, hence the limb saver. So do you guys ever do strange 1903 things like this?

I've done my share of parts guns...they usually work out OK.

    plastic stocks

The GI plastic stocks are US Navy drill stocks. Not intended for firing, not sure if it will hold up to firing. Good luck.

If the rifle is beating the bejeebers outta ya, a healthy guy, imagine what it'll be like for someone with major health issues. You'd be way ahead of the game to 'spring' for an aftermarket C type stock. Would be the most comfortable, and likely be the easiest to shoot accurately. The higher comb would make scope use easier, and, be appropriate for an "A Faux Sniper".
Yes, I've pieced together 'things' that wouldn't have ever been produced in a US armory, or even on a Gubmint contract. Most were fun, most were pulled down for the parts in the end. Answered a lot of "what if they'd tried this" questions!
