    High Wood repop M1a1 stocks

Okay, so I was going to save up for a genuine M1a1 but so few of those that are still around are from the first production run or not arsenal rebuilt. Second production run would be nice too but in terms of "correctness" I've never seen any photographic evidence (yet) of an M1icon or M1a1 with these later features in use before February 1945.

So I was thinking about building up a fist run fake out of a beater action but there doesn't seem to be (or almost never has been) any high wood repro stocks anymore that I can find. Can some one fill me in on this or does everyone on all those other forums out there on the interwebs just have no clue what "high wood" means even when they say it?

I don't think I can ever hide the seam if I just glue another piece of walnut in there!

I love that "they" make the rivets and leather better looking on some of the newer ones but still can't figure out high wood and no M2 cut. True, every "new" "replica" carbine gets it wrong too, obviating the point in the first place and basically duplicating the about 5.9 million original late feature rebuilds we already have out there. ( I know, I know, most people don't really know or care about details and/or history etc.)

An M2 cut is the inlet for the selector used on the FA M2 carbine...the highwood is the right hand side of the stock group in front of the Operating Slide handle...it comes up to the upper handguard. Later it was cut down with wood chisels because it was a bit fragile. Look at the threads on carbines and look for high wood...

There were high wood repro M1A1icon stocks at one time. I saw someone on the CMPicon offering one for sale this past January for $160 so I jumped on it. An hour after I claimed it by saying "i'll take it" another CMP member contacted me as he wanted to buy it. I really liked it but when offered a CMP papered Rock Ola barreled receiver (1st serial block) with front and rear sight for it plus $200 it was an offer "I could not refuse". And as a plus he only lived 45 minutes from me so no shipping or FFL transfer involved. So I owned the HW stock for 2 days but they did exist. They are, to the best of my knowledge, no longer made but there are some floating around out there.

Here is a current low wood M1A1 stock repro I have on fleabay right now M1 Carbine Folding Stock Paratrooper | eBay

My local gun shop has an Inland mounted in an 'NOS' [aftermarket] stock. Asking price $4,999.99. When I asked him about it, he didn't want to talk about the authenticity of the stock. Every thing he has is overpriced but he stays in business. GK

I was at the Knob Creek shoot/show last month and looking for an IBM. There was only one there and looking at it I could see the import mark that had been removed---almost. When I first asked about it the seller said it "does not have an import mark and never did". Asking price was $1200. Later when I stopped back again I whipped out my magnifying glass, sort of a jewelers loop. Looking at the "scratch" again I advised him you could still see the VA where it once said "Arl Ord Arlington, VA. I asked if he wanted to use the loop to see it, he said no and kind of slinked away. He knew that I knew it was indeed an attempt to remove the import mark.
