A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Interesting how this site has a deep bias for Army infantry weapons. It begs the question why so many other weapons were NOT mentioned, such as :
-artillery shells that carried the Proximity Fuse, which Eisenhower said shortened the war by 1 1/2 years (and enabled us to shoot down V-1 rockets launched from Antwerp and Kamikaze planes in the Pacific from our cruisers and destroyers).
    - the MaDeuce machine gun used by army and USAAF in warplanes almost universally (we even had them mounted topside on our ship in Vietnam they were so good)
    - Bombs used over Germanyicon, and, of course, the atom bomb.

Guess any source that used this unique spelling must not be the most authoritative:
"During WW2 the M1icon was the the US infantrys standard weapon. its semi automatic holding 8 .30 callibar cartages. it is self loading and gas operated and was designed to be shot from the sholder. having a max range of 5500 yards (roughely 5 KM) made it deadly accurate at close proximity. Being 43 inches long and weighing onle 9 pounds made it a ........"

Just noticed this thread and checked the link.

Not sure I'd put much credence in their info if they list actors from the TV series "Combat" as soldiers (Kirby with the BAR, and Hanley with the M1icon).
