It looks a bit sanded/filed/altered to me, The proof tonnes is correct for a 308w? then again its easy to stamp numbers. The sights are AJP kind of suspect it was the "real thing" converted and sold by AJP as a taregt rifle, the equivalent to a ParkerHale?

The sights if in good nick are worth 150GDP I suspect, so if you paid 100GDP for it well you are ahead.

Not sure on how your return policy works over there but here once you brought it you own it and there ain't no way its going back to the dealer unless you want a court case and try false advertising, I mean look at it this way I buy an MG off you take it away come back 2 days later after thrashing it to death and say give me my money back.....sorry cobber won't work.
Trains of thought, get the minor stuff fixed as PL alluded, the Envoy 7.62 etc mags will squirrel even the moths out of your wallet, try it out if it shoots then keep it as a fun gun or part it out not sure on your regs but in Australiaicon it is fairly tight trying to sell barrels and actions without a FDL as we end up the not so nice people with orphans that fly under the police radar. My advice is go to the range and have a blast up freshly burnt gunpowder is good for the soul and besides it may shoot really well

Look at it another way. You have got the basics for a half decent L42 replica there. Ok, it's a Mk2 but it's a replica. Set of cheapo repop pads and follow the instructions to the letter and there you have it. Consider it a 12 month project, selling off the envoy type fore-end, butt, P-H sights etc etc as you go.

Thanks again for the input. Interesting idea to make half decent L42 Replica out of it. Just a pity the scope costs so much more than the Pecar for an Enforcer replica but I could do it. At least I do know where I can get a scope.
However I'm still a bit miffed that a so called reputable dealer put up the original description. Will think about it for 24 hours. At least the L42 replica is a 'Fall Back' position. Once again thanks for your help and suggestions.

Have you tried simply giving the dealer a call or checking the T&Cs on their website if you bought it online? A returns policy could well be on their website.

I'd have that on the ranges within 10 days as a v. good iron sighted L42 replica less tele and bracket which I'd get as the opportunity presented itself - which it WILL. But if you gave me 2 weeks, it'd have that P-H sight spaced to clear the rear pad and winning prizes - hopefully!

"I now KNOW a certain person is NOT to be trusted and that is worth the £100 or so I might have lost."

Are we understanding you correctly? That you paid 100 for the rifle with AJP sight and are complaining about it? Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and is the 100 the difference between what you paid and what you think it is really worth?

If you only paid 100, thenn IMHO trust (or lack thereof) is the wrong word here. Looks more like the dealer didn't have much of a clue, otherwise he would have charged you MORE.

Put it this way: if you lived here I would happily give you the 100, take it away, and laugh as soon as I was out of earshot.

Always look on the bright side: you got an AJP backsight for LESS than the usual price, and a FREE RIFLE as well.

Or have I and others got it all wrong, and you paid more than was appropriate for something that was not what you thought it was? I have on a couple of occasions bought a dud, and on each occasion the dealer took it back without quibbling when the error was pointed out - quite calmly and without any shouting or threatening. I seriously suggest that consultation would be better than confrontation.
