    Locating a correct WW2 Garand

My daughters boss wants to buy a correct WW2 M1 Garand in excellent condition. What advice do members have locating one and validating it's authenticity. If not a scarce model or maker, what's the ball park retail on one.

The man who wants to buy an M1 is a lawyer and inherited a collection of German guns from his grandfather "who blew the safe at the Mauser mansion" during WW2. His grandfather was in Army intelligence. The guns I've seen so far are a mint C96 complete with shoulder holster, a mint Luger and a mint Mauser HSC. I am waiting for an invite to his house to see the rest of the bring backs.

My point is just that he is a fairly discriminating collector who can afford a good correct M1. But I'm not thinking gun shows in rural MN is likely to turn up too many options. Any advice on how to pursue this and a range of what to expect to spend?

There's bags of info on this site, why not just read through the posts and threads instead of asking a question that's so wide open. The answer will take ages to properly type out...yes they're expensive for an original rifle. Very...

Check the CMP auctions, they come up with such every so often.

The adds in Grand Collectors Assn Journal might be a option.

Contact Scott Duff. You may pay a bit more than but you will be sure what you are getting is as he says. Request Rejected I don't know why when I post Scott Duffs web site address it states "Request Rejected", yet when you click on "Request Rejected" you are taken to Scotts web site ???

Thanks Joe. That sounds like a good option for this guy. Tell Scott what he's looking for and what his budget is.

I have seen a couple nice originals at the NGD show, especially when the SOS has been going at the same time. I would expect about $3500 for an original, not restored, like a GAW inspected gun in nice condition. Like everything else, beat many bushes/sources like the ones suggested. Have a lot of cash ready. Post pictures of the prospect first. Spring quick if you find the right rifle IMO.

Shh... Shh... I was eying that

On a serious note, it will be interesting to see what that rifle fetches. It's already over $4K.
