    Bren magazine manufacturer mark identity

In my collection I have a Bren mag with a half shining sun within a circle and the area within the circle where the sun isn't shining is cross hatched; this mark is on the top side of the mag and the top plate. I am sorry that, at present, I'm unable to post a picture of it. Does any-one know who the maker is with this marking, may not be of U.K. origin? Also were Australianicon made mags ever issued to U.K. forces in W.W.2? There seems to be quite a few mags with M.A. markings in the U.K. now but I believe most of these were imported in recent years??? Thanks for any info.

In areas where UKicon and Aust (and NZicon, SA India etc etc) were operating together Ordnance/weapon/ammunition stocks were inevitably pooled on a pro-rata basis and issued regardless. So the answer is yes.

Ain't got a clue about the half shining sun but I know a man that will know....... Are you there Kev?

Hi, i picked up one of these at Birmingham in November, did you ever identify the maker please ? i also picked up a khaki green painted one, stamped with the crows foot and an E, the same E is on the inside spring. Also it looks like a prefabricated type of manufacture, the sides folded over along the curvature, mystery to me, any ideas, anyone, please.

No I still haven't discovered the manufacturer with the mystery maker's mark which I mentioned at the start of this thread but I have picked up a second mag with the same markings.

This one should be marked M/78 (Elkington)
    Like the one below ?

Talks about making this overlapped constructed magazine started in April 42 with Elkington submiting drawings in May and the design accepted in June.

As an aside also in June 42 there was another design of overlapped construction magazine by Godins Ltd (M91) of Newport. This design was to be of two rolled halves of front and back joined as opposed to the Elkington design of two side halves. There was an intention of ordering 100,000 of the 'Godins type' but not sure if this was placed as I have never seen one ......others may have stacks of them !

Anyway it wasn't until the summer of 43 that Elkingtons started manufacturing proper due to delays.

Not too sure about the 'half shining sun magazne' ? Can you email me ( kevinATbren-gun.com ) a picture and I'll post it here so others can view and comment ?

Wishing all a very happy 2016 .....I'm off down the Dog and Bear to see it in

Kev, brilliant, definitely right construction, spot on, but this one, which is painted khaki green fo 99% of the surface has an E and crows foot where yours has the M/ I am attempting to photo and post as we speak, sun marked one too, got phone issues, but i will get there.

OK , this is the nearest match I can find to the 'half shining sun' mark.

It's manufactured by Electrolux in Australiaicon.

Hope this helps ? if not email me a pic.

    ATB Kevin
