    Chance at 2 Eddystones

General question, no pictures yet should have some tomorrow.

    Dealer has the following:

    1) In cosmolineicon and brown paper, nice blue finish, all Eddystone parts except 3-18 Remington barrel. Stock & metal is perfect, bore like new. Asking 850.00

    2) 100% correct Eddystone 1-18 on E barrel. Nice wood, bore excellent. 650.00

Based on the above what's the better buy?

    Thanks!
    David

Off the top I would go for #2. What is it's finish? does the 1-18 date correlate with the receiver serial #.

#2 has been parked, the barrel seems to match. RA-P cartouche. These just came in, the dealer was planning to clean them up and get back to me with any other findings and hopefully some pictures.

Both sound like they have been through an arsenal rebuild. Price seems a little high on the one with the replaced barrel, even with the cosmo and wrap.

#2 in addition to the RA-P also has an AAZ behind the RA-P. Does anyone have in formation on what the AAZ would represent?

Thanks for the response, is there a source that you are referencing for the AAZ cartouche, if so can you share it?
Looking for information on the web for AAZ and just not finding anything on it. The following site has Agusta's marking and this one isn't on the list.

    Thanks! David Inspectors Stamps

Would it be the AA ia for Agusta Arsenal and the Z for an inspector's initial?

AA = Augusta Arsenal. "Z" is the inspector's initial. The rifle hasn't necessarily been through rebuild twice but has been rebuilt, (probably at Raritan Arsenal), and inspected and marked accordingly twice. I'm guessing inspection only at Augusta before being put into long term storage but I could be wrong. I have M1icon rifles in my own collection that are pretty much original but sport the AN = Anniston Arsenal inspectors stamp so were inspected/marked before going into storage.

    I've pulled the trigger on:

#2 An all matching Eddystone Ser# 4490XX with a 3-18 barrel which looks like a correct time frame for the production. Also has the RA-P AAZ cartouches for 650.00.

Pictures will be posted once I get the rifle. Thanks for all of your help guys.
