    L1A1 & FN Fal

1962 BSA L1A1 & Imbel FN Fal both UKicon spec straight pulls. The L1 was supplied in plastic furniture, this has been changed for wood which I think looks a lot better.

Is someone in the UKicon importing rifles direct from Imbel and then converting them?

I wonder if I can get one redirected to NZicon before its butchered?

Not any more. I believe that there's only around 24 of these straight pull IMBEL FALs in the UK and a few others in .22 and .223. I understand that they came to the UK via Guy Savage (Sabre Defence) around 7-10 years ago.
Unlike the SP L1A1s which by definition are made from parts kits, these were made as straight pull from the outset with all new IMBEL parts. I've got a 7.62 standard rather than a shorty version. I'd dearly love to get hold of a .22 para version but they're rarer than a rare thing!

Very nice looking in its Germanicon G1 garb ... I know someone who owns a Imbel Para .22, very nice rifle to shoot, I must say the standard of fit and finish on the Imbel is very good, better than the Fn parent rifle in fact!

    Morning Kev,

As a point of information, we can't import and convert semi autos as they would retain their "legal" semi auto status, so if its imported as Section 5, it remains Sec5 (unless its deactivated). These Imbels are basically US civilian spec builds, the receivers have no safety sear provision.

They don't have the barrel bleed drilled and lack the piston, we have to make do mate, unlike you lucky sods, way down there in the Colonies ... Don't let big brother take yours away, like he did ours!

Under UK law, that would be illegal. The rule is "once a Section 5 - always a Section 5" so conversions are not allowed.

Straight-pulls must be built from the ground up, although second hand parts are allowed.

    Imbel FAL - hard Extraction?

About 10 years ago, a chap I knew in LERA had one of the Imbel FALs. He eventually got rid of it because of its hard extraction problems.

I have a recent UKicon spec SP L1A1 from ACR, chambered in .308 (or so it says on the receiver - I've not tried it with 7.62). It was a bit tight to start with, but fine now, after several 100 rounds.

So why did the Imbel FAL, in 7.62, have hard extraction problems?
