Un-Issued IBM

Just when I decided to concentrate on collecting and building Garands, having sold off most of what I had M1 Carbine including all the major makes (yes, IP also) and the magazine collection, what should I come across but another collection at a fair price. I missed the IP by mere hours . Started out putting on lay-a-way the 5 digit Inland that was a little worn, but with the I cut stock and flip sights and type one barrel band, and a Standard Products that was a good representative piece. The next day I thought I might go for the S'G' and ended up with it and a decent Q. H.. By now I was wondering where in the heck I was going to get the cash to pick up all of these, but I couldn't help but ask what else the gent had. He pulls out an un-issued IBM. 3.8 million run, S flip sights, type I barrel band with NO other band impressions on the JLB stock, stamped-braised B-EB trigger group with GM-B hammer and SW sear, IBM no year barrel with no hint of shadow from a type III barrel band and N front sights, S24 bolt, AOB slide, correct push button safety, etc. All parts that would meet the criteria of cross pollination betwixt the factories. The stock has the roughness that can only come of not being sanded or having steel wool applied, the correct small ordnance belt and cannons, and two boxed P proof marks. Also, on the right comb, boxed S S A A and on the left hand of the stock forward of the sling well, R.R.A., which would be consistent with the two boxed P proofs and it would make sense that San Antonio's stock would be transferred to Red River Arsenal when it closed in 1949, plus slight dings and dents in the wood that would come from hurried packing. Believe me, I found out how to get the cash. Today, the IBM came home with me, as will the others tomorrow. There would have been drool all over it, but I put on a bib, just in case. Yeah, I'd like to see this one too. Why do you believe it's un-issued? A carbine made in that time frame certainly would have had time to make it to a battlefield. I'll save my comments about the stock until some pictures of the rifle get posted, if they ever do.

I'[m not doubting your integrity, but maybe the integrity of the guy who sold it to you and told you it was un-issued with rebuild marks all over the stock, plus all of the mixed parts that may or may not of been integrated to IBM. I guess I've heard so many stories like this one only to be explained away one way or another by pictures.

The guy that sold it to me didn't know what he had and it's pretty much my experience with firearms and conditions that lead me to my judgement. If I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected, though I'm hoping that I'm right. I'll get the pix up as soon as I get batteries for it. Broke my laziness to find the camera said "BATTERIES EMPTY".
