    L1A1 (and others) shoot

    Morning all,

Had a great day out yesterday at my local range Severnside.

Fellow Milsup'ers Charlie303 and Adrianc came along and we indulged in a little brass conversion with hardware seen below,

    My 1917 SMLE and Maltby No4, Springfield A4 build,Lithgowicon L1A1 and Enfield L1A1.

Charlie brought his superb BSA L1A1, M1icon Garand and No5 Mk1. (always fun shooting the wonderful Garand, PING!)

Some time was spent chasing the L2A2 SUIT's around the target, but the L2A1 SUIT on my Enfield L1A1 printed a 1 inch group at 100yds result!

Great day out shooting and good to meet up with Adrian too.Attachment 65318

There certainly seems to be a few SP L1A1's getting around. I suppose the SUIT sight has a certain 'thing' about it but its ability to retain its zero with its suspect mount on that cover after being bumped about on a patrol or in the back of a 432 or lorry was its drawback. Said many times, but we thought SUIT stood for Shooter Undoubtedly In Trouble!

    Hi John,

Sounds like you had a good day, if only that range was closer I would join you.
Just seen the pic 3 L1A1's in wood and SUIT's fitted very nice...

A M1icon Garand nice, took mine last saturday to Bisley all I got asked was does it do the ping, can we hear it.

Charlie303 had the M1 long what do you think. Will never sell mine now in tiger stripped blonde wood 50's dated. Operation is super slick, do you reload I'm using up some FNM factory ammo bought some years ago, then reloading the brass.

Makes my eyes water to see such iron and can only pine because our freeking laws are so strict we in the Western Australiaicon have to suffer the strictest of the strict only if you have an Ag license can you even hope to get semi's like that it is just pure cr*p we have to put up with......
    Here is a letter I wrote to Ron Owen a direct descendant of the man who designed the Owen gun;

    In addition to your letter to the Deputy Prime Minister;

Often more than not the Govt has made decisions based on what it perceives "what is in
the publics best interests" and does not consider those of us who are shooters for all
    the right reasons.
Our passion for the skill at arms was something our fore bearers gained through their
sacrifice and blood at Galipolli and Franceicon.
But we have had to put up with the knee jerk reaction from John Howard that was
unconstitutional how he did it just a vote catcher.
And pandering to the Greens backroom boys to get the votes and to look like the Govt
was doing something. Why does the Govt not tell the truth about Port Arthur and the
    Hoddle street incidents.
Do people know there were 55 pages missing of Bryants testimony to the police and he
could not tell the difference between an AR-10 or the AR-15.
They look the same but are different calibers, that the shooting style from the hip in
the restaurant placed the gunman in the top 2% of the worlds top combat marksmen.
Why did Martin hit nothing with the 300 rounds fired from the house, the 5.56 round was
chosen by the shooter for its light recoil and devastating affect on soft tissue.

There are thousands like myself who abide by the rules in Australia here in W.A have
the strictest gun laws in all of Australia.
If things are that bad then why not ban cars as they are a lethal weapon and kill more
    Australians than rifles.
The Govt has effectively burdened the innocent shooter with a black mark as being a
    threat to the populace.
I say to you that the Govt repeal the legislation placed after Port Arthur and let the
    shooters enjoy shooting and collecting.
You will never stop the illegal gun trade only shoestring those of us who have the
    passion for shooting.
I have been a shooter collector for 42 years, my wife is a shooter and so is my son and
I hope to carry it on as long as I can see the target through a scope.

Very well put indeed , I agree fully with your sentiments, unfortunately, laws are seldom written for the benefit of all, but are aimed at the lowest pond scum and stupidest in society.

As a result, the rest of us, the law abiding decent people, are forced to live with the consequences of poor "vote winning" politically driven legislation

I bedded my Maltby No4 as per your step by step instructions Peter, absolutely spot on, impressively tight groups!

    Many thanks indeed..

    Morning Ade,

Yep good to meet up, no we forgot to photograph the rifles until last minute, so Richard had to hang on for us to sort out the rifles and take the picture!

Thanks for the emailed info mate, there are a few people getting in on the SP game now, but be warned, some are trading on pure fresh air with only bullsh*t to sell, very few have actual stock in my experience of the trade!

The idea seems to be to persuade people to part with deposits, then get enough capital together to order the rifles.. A sort of tail wagging the dog thing!
