I have just finished my No15 Mk1 transit chest, I followed the blueprint found in the Knowledge Library (thanks to Badger for making them available). First time I have cut dovetails by hand!

I used a native NZ wood Rata

Super job! And if you'd like a scan of the original label I had one I discretely removed, scanned and replaced. You'd have to graft the two halves of the scan together though.

Just thought I would mention, that Sarco has been and is still selling complete sets of hinges and latches for $50/set.
I got mine from them last winter, but they were still listing them last week. My first attempt at dovetails in 50yrs, interesting and much slower going than I remember. Thanks to all.

The hardware is very common here in NZ the latches are from the seat boxes of Land Rovers, and the hinges you can still buy at the local hardware store, but the screws (CSK flat blade steel) are a bit harder to find, had to raid mine and my friends old screw jars.

thanks chris, i knew i had seem them somewhere else. any particular model?

thankfully a few years ago i grabbed a few .303 sardine cans full of old hardware (for the .303 cans) so i have some steel flat blade screws.

i think i'll need to do some practice woodwork before attempting dovetails though.

I used the latches from a series one Land Rover, but I'm pretty sure that the latches are the same right up to series III so any Land Rover from 1948 to 1982 will do, thankfully Land Rovers are not in short supply in NZ or Aussie.
