    1909 Argentine Mauser G.N. Marked

    Gentlemen,
There is not to much information on the internet about this marking and was wondering if anyone can give me some information about the 1909's with this mark. Truth be told, I am going to sell this rifle and would also like to know a value. I can't even remember what I paid for it.

    Thank you for any help.

According to my 5th edition of Mauser Miitary rifles of the World, the M1909 Cavalry Carbine for the National Police had the Argentineicon Crest and below it "Gendarmeria Nacional"

A member on Gunboards posted this link, which I had seen many years ago and was the only real reference to this mark that I had seen. It says G.N. instead of crest......

They're too rare for any kind of price statistics. For a hard-core South American Mauser collector it's a great rarity. For anyone else it's just an oddly marked Argentineicon Mauser, although carbines usually seem to fetch more than long rifles. The bolt face looks tatty, and some parts have been scrubbed rather heavily, looking excessively shiny when compared with the wood. How good is the bore? So value is anything from a couple of hundred to barmy. Use an online auction for maximum exposure and hope that at least 2 of the above-mentioned fans bid each other up... Otherwise 300-500.

Thank you, Patrick. I assumed as much with the finish on the metal. The bore is very shiny with nice rifling. It's up for sale now.... we'll see. Thanks again.

"...my book doesn't mention anything except the crested ones..."

Correct, but see "Argentineicon Mauser Rifles 1871-1959" by Colin Webster, P.155 for some versions without crest - although not a GN example - it must be very rare. The numberings given given in the book are also ALL 6-digit, i.e. 000001 to 005000 for the 1st "crested" GN version, and nothing with 5 digits and a period, like the 00.553 on this example.

So this looks like a previously unrecorded variation!

Thread is almost two years old but still good to have confirmation. I have a GN bayonet, my sources say only around 500 made which would probably be about the same number of rifles.
