What type ? A heavy barrel 1903 rifle

I'm going to take a look at this rifle sometime next week and was hoping some RKI's here could point out, what this rifle is actually. I'm interested mainly if it is original the way it sits and if it could be have been produced at the armoury.

The barrel is 28 inches in length and does look like a style "T" type. The bluing does look to be consistent through out,but I'm not a expert at all on these rifles. The stock does have a circle P on the grip.

Has the stock been cut? The serial # is 1417XXX so should be a 1932 manufacture. IIRC these Style T rifles were all produced in 1930 and this gun has the standard safety, not the reverse safety. Also it has the headed type cocker which I think would be correct for a 1932 rifle.

I'm not really sure if this is a NM action, maybe others can make that distinction. Is does have a root marked N.S. bolt, but looks to be overstamped. The barrel band does look like the enfield adapted type. The Lyman does not look period correct for the year of rifle.

The front sight does look to be the modified BAR type with a Redfield globe attached.

The gun does not show up on the DCM list.

    I have attached several photos.

    Thanks in advance.

I can see on your photo of the top of receiver the prick mark on right side rail that's 1.5 inch back from port opening. This prick mark is on many national match rifles I have seen.

Thanks I assume you mean this mark that I have drawn around in red. These are the kind of details that I would never know without your help....appreciated.

The right side rail....ok then this is it? The 2nd photo.

The punch mark that's between the bolt and extractor, not the receiver bulge. I have one on my 1938 production, my friend has one on his 1933 production. I have seen 3 other NM's that were made in the 30's at gun shows that also had the mark. I read some where, maybe this forum that there was at least one other that had the mark and was not a NM rifle, possibly a team rifle?

I have 2 N.S. Bolts and there identical to yours. Does your bolt have gas excape hole on your bolt or 2?

I won't be able to inspect the rifle till next week. Are your bolts serialised and if so on the top or bottom. Thanks

Appears to be a Type T to me. Stock might have been shortened a bit.

If the serial number is 1417414, it is listed in SRS records twice:

    1417417 07/20/32 Manufactured
    1417417 05/04/39 Inquiry from OO

Yes it is 1417414....but you show 1417417....

Ok that's what I found that the closest serial number was indeed 1417417....

But you think it is a style T and since it wasn't sold by the DCM, what are the other possibilities? Do you have an idea what the rifle would be worth?

Kind of strange this gun sold at Rock Island in Feb of this year. Rock islands appraisal is very sparce but did rate the rifle @ 80 pct original. Do you think they could have missed the stock cut down?

1 bolt is serialized on top, 1938 Springfield, the other N.S. Bolt is in a 1918 Springfield that was purchased at the Phila. Navy yard back in the 60's and has no number on it.
