Yugo M48 BO stock finish question? (pics)

Just got this one last week. The Guy I got it from got it 10 years ago, fired 15 rounds through it, said it functioned fine, then stored it is his safe all these years. The only markings on it are the serials, which all match. There bore is almost like chrome. The hardware has no visible wear.
The stock is straight with no dings or handling marks.

The question I have is about the varnished finish. Of the Mausers I own, and have owned, I have never seen a finish such as this. It is high gloss, and was brushed on as it overlapped the hardware in some places, which I easily scraped of with a piece of styrene plastic, with no harm to the bluing. Is this a factory finish?

Importer mark is very faint.: Cherrys GSO, NC, Zastava, FRY, 8mm Mau. on the side of the barrel, which I had to use a magnifying glass to read.

I would say no, it is not a factory finish. All I've ever seen had an oil finish. But don't remove it until you get some other opinions.

We had several hundred in captivity at a time over there and none looked like that. Everything from new to captured WW2. No varnish finish.
