A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. With today's technology in AT weaponry even heavy tanks are fair game I see where the US has a cluster bomb configuration that when deployed air dropped or cruise whichever platform they decide can take out a large number of tanks in the area by actively targeting them and coming through the turret top ~ https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&r...jwVdINHVml_G5w

Oh, yes......, the Samson...... Another of the all things to all men variants! I saw a demonstration of the Samsons features and one part was firing a grappling hook to enable it to unditch itself from an otherwise unrecoverable position. The cable and grappling hook was fired off the vehicle to dig itself in some 60 or so metres ahead, which it duly did but unfortunately, no-one had thought to anchor the rear end of the cable to the Samson chassis. So off into the distance went the rocked fired grappling hook plus a long length of unwinding steel hawser and a still bogged down Samson had to be unbogged later by an older (and wiser crewed) Centurion AVRE that it was going to part replace. The Samson was then replaced by the CET, a Combat Engineer Tractor, something that could do the job.

The winner may or may not realise what he has won, as I got the impression from the news article that he didn't really want it, but it is probably worth more daily and definitley worth finding a garage for it, and slowly doing it up IMHO

Unless these things are garaged, the rot sets in very quickly. Starting with the stowage bins and light outer pannier stuff. In the mid to late 90's the Armoured reccy units were invited to submit a request if they wanted one as a 'unit trophy' I think they were to be called (the word gate guardian was not allowed!) and Land-Mark were allowed a quantity for use as hard targets. They could 'belly' quite easily and didn't have the grunt to do much about it.

Wasn't the engine a Jaguar or a Jaguar derivative?

But it looks so cool parked on a suburban cul-de-sac...

I find myself asking, "exactly what type of contest could I enter where the prize would be a tank?". Nothing comes to mind. Is it a fundraiser for the local elementary school, a shopping mall raffle for the Knights of Columbus or Kinsmen, or ??????? I must live in the wrong part of the world.

No its for the person who has trouble with other road users, lane hogs come to mind just think you could clear the road ahead and imagine a tailgaters eyes pop out when that turret swings around and they are looking up that rather large hole.......I want one!
