Restorer suggestions to unsheath a stuck blade? Please??

I have an old African sword which has remained sheathed for the last 12 years (the last time I took it out) and, apparently, its iron blade has corroded a bit, just enough to make removal from its sheath less than straightforward.

I'm searching for ideas as to how I might remove it. Gentle measures so far haven't succeeded. It's quite valuable so ripping open the sheath is not a viable solution.

Metal or leather sheath?

Perhaps a leather conditioner like Lexol. Or a penetrating oil if it is a metal scabbard.

OK, that's an idea. It's leather. I don't know why your comment triggered a thought just now but thanks!

I just got it out by swinging the sheath in a chopping motion and using the blades inertia to free it.
