BSA FTR Of A Maltby....For Peter

Peter.... I believe you had said that one of these had never been through the workshops. Here are some photos of one you can look over. This example represents a almost complete BSA parts FTR of a former Maltby Mk.I less the bands, cocking piece, front sight assembly and trigger guard. All the wood is M/47C 1956 marked which is 2 years after the 1954 dated barrel. This is the most common scenario found on 1954 FTR'd rifles by BSA. At the week end, I will post pics of another that may give some idea of where these rifles went after FTR. All opinions welcomed, of course.

BSA FTR'd thousands of war weary No4's and No1's on a commercial basis including conversion to Mk1/2 and 1/3. Like Faz, they will have used up their existing stocks of spare parts and made new parts to continue this lucrative business. But they were not allowed to make complete new rifles as a condition of their now completed wartime contract. You would very occasionally see one of these BSA FTR rifles in service but not often as they were commercial contracts whereas ours were all(?) Fazakerley FTR'd, simply to keep the Govt factories busy

They were large buyers of War Dept weapons, including Bren guns and they shared the Bren part with another local Co, Westley Richards who rebuilt thousands of Brens for sale to nations that wanted them
