    Question M84 repro scope?

    Hello,

as you know I am a new member, i joined because you seem to have a lot of people with experience and knowldege about Milsurps particularly the M1903A3 which are rare in Australiaicon (most shooters prefer on of the Enfields)and there isn't much in print except Brophy's and Poyers books which don't give that much info about actually shooting them. I posted a question about the M84 repro scope that numrich sell because i can't get any info out of them. I can't find my post or any responses, sorry if i posted it in the wrong place as I am new to this game.

    Thanks

Welcome aboard. You guys still allowed to have weapons? Are all your women as good looking as the ones we see in your vacation ads?

I don't know about the repro scope, but Numrich quality has slipped the past few years. I bought two hinged floorplates from them that looked like crap, and probably made by child labor - unskilled at that.

the numrich scopes are built with mostly leftover original production parts that came onto the market from the manufacturer some years ago.

numrich has assembled these themselves .... so its a safe bet to say that the quality will vary.

If you just have to have an M84 - I'd suggest looking at eBay - there is a guy in Greece that is selling USGI surplus originals / some are new in box.

The scopes that Numrich sold 8-10 years ago were all USGI, put together from original parts. (Not by Numrich, but by a scope technician who contracted with them.) Many have blank serial number plates.

The current repros are of unknown origin. I suspect all parts are from a 3rd world country, possibly China.

I saw a repro M84 scope at Sarco. It is a dark black color, it had very thick cross bars and post, like a European scope. It also had a 'W' prefix to the five digit serial number. I believe these were made in Taiwan by Wayne Machinery Inc. the Taiwanese military contractor that made the 'WMI' marked M2 bipods. They also make M1icon and M1903A3 parts for US parts dealers. The scopes assembled from the left over Libby-Owens-Ford parts are impossible to tell from the US contract ones.

Just received mine from Numrich today. Came with a five digit numeric serial number & no 'w' prefix. Nice finish and windage & elevation turrets feel good with positive clicks. Reticle is a fine cross hair with a slightly larger post. Hopefully I'll be out at the range this week, so I'll let you know how it goes.

    repro M84

FYI, a Numrich rep at the recent SHOT show in Orlando told me the scopes are manufactured by a country "in the Far East." He also said a repro scope for the Britishicon Enfield sniper will be introduced later this year. The M84 had clear optics and looked great, but I am not an expert on these scopes.

I have both an original M84 in mint condition and original mount and 2 of the scopes from Sarco. They are a bit cheaper than Numrich but sure they are the same. The quality is increadable and as a gunsmith for 40 years these are the best reproductions I have seen. The quality on the 2 I have are excellent. The original has a very slight yellowing on the ID plate where the reproductions are a bright white. I have 10 original M1D barrels so planning to put some together with the reproductions of the cheek pad and scope and mount so that some people can have a very nice M1D at a reasonable price that looks every bit as good as the original. Of course if someone wants a fully original one I have them to but just love looking at them. Holding a Garandicon is like holding a peice of history and just have to wonder where it has been. There is also a guy on Ebay with M84 USGI mounts and I picked up a couple and they are indeed original so at 199.00 not to bad a deal.

id say anything sold by Sarco, Gunparts or old western scrounger is made in China or other Asian country.
i can tell you that the new repro made Gibbs, Redfield and no name bases are all made in China, and dont fit very well, id bet all are made in the same place, by the same group of people.
quality of the repro parts available from these companys has been hit and miss.
i just installed a Gibbs base, not only did it not fit right and needed lots of fitting, the screws they supplied came pre boogered, and stripped out as soon as they were tightened..
save your money, buy real GI parts,,,and do it right the first time, that way you wont have to do it 2 times..
