    Replacement for original PU?

    Hi

Got original MN 43' Tula with matching PU scope, shoots 1"1/4 at 100 with reloads (varget or AA4350/174 smk). After 73 years of faithful service, the old PU developed issue before last year hunting season; tried to find someone knowledgeable enough to work on it but the only guy i found lives in Ukraine, so repair seems compromised.
I enjoy shooting the old girl; what would be the next best solution? Another original PU is around $400 and I do not have so much cash for now; a repro is half of that, so I could consider it but are they reliable?

    Thanks

I assume that you are talking about the scope and not the gun itself?

I have no experience with repro scopes, but I don't hear a lot of complaints/issues. If your goal is to get it back into the bullseye, then keep the number matched scope aside, and shoot with a repro.

    Hi Martin
Yes, just talking about the PU scope, the rifle is AOK.
Anyone with 1st hand experience with repro scope, brand, model you used, did it fit in the original scope mount?
    Appreciate all input.

An original PU scope should be $150-250. A guy on gunboards repairs PU scope and for a good price, Raspooton?sp?. There is also a sticky on the sniper forum regarding disassembly for somebody who wants to try do it yourself.

    Bering PU 90 repro

Bought a scope and mount off Amazon, $270. Good quality and optics, accurate repro.
Really fine originals w/mounts bring $500 and they are still very old.

Most of the repros are built in Belarus (VOMZ) and are sold by places like Kalinka optics, I have one for another project and it is well crafted and serviceable.

I would think it would be an acceptable replacement to shoot with in place of an original.
