I found a BCD code (Buchenwald) G43 this weekend at the gun show!

I found a decent looking G43 this weekend and got it for a steal because of the cut stock. Do you guys think this is a duffle cut or maybe a smashed stock that was chopped? The prices on these things are all over the place. The stock, receiver and gas system match. I'm learning the SS acquired parts to build the BCD code G43's from all over. It looks original, the lady I got it from said her father brought it back in 45 and never touched it again. With all of the dust and dirt in the action I believe her. The bore is as bright as I have seen, much better than most of the K98's I've come across. I'm trying to find a value and maybe any other reason why the stock would be cut like that? (besides to fit in a duffle).

Your G43 was made by Gustloff Werke, Suhl, which prior to 1939 was known as Berliner Suhler Waffen und Fahrzeugwerke (BSW). German standard small arms used by the Waffen SS were obtained through Army procurement channels. The stock may have been cut to fit a duffle, but it would have been shorter if disassembled from the stock.

Wow, what a shame. Usually a "duffle-cut" is at the other end, and relatively easy to repair. You will have to find a replacement stock, or a donor butt, if you're good at woodworking. What did it cost you?

I only paid $600 for it.

That is good. For another $300 or so you can find a nice repro stock to put your metal in. You'll still be ahead of the game.

Measure the total lengh of the stock. It could be that they only cut off the part which was covered by the cupped buttplate. And even if not, I'd glue a copy of the wooden part which would be covered by the buttplate to the bottom, and re-fit a buttplate. Check if it's still the original stock (bottom and/or inside of the stock should still carry the rifles serial), if it is, it is worth rescueing it.

it looks to have a few inches cut off. The stock is original and has the matching serial #. I'm on the fence about having it repaired. I don't want somebody to mess it up

You can't mess that stock up worse than it is.
If it can be "repaired" to usable condition, great. If not, get a used or repro stock. No loss either way.
