    Springfield M2 - .22 cal Trainer - Original Finish

Well, I thought I was done with buying for the year. But the following gem surfaced at my local shop, and there was NO WAY it was going to leave with anyone else.

These are rarely found with matching bolt numbers and original dark grey parkerized finish. Bolt channel in the receiver is still in the white. Most were rebuilt with swapped bolts/stocks/other parts, and received a refinish in the dark green park.

Barrel is dated 5-37. Mag is correctly stamped 'M2'. Factory installed Lyman 48C rear sight. Electro-pencil number spanning both underside halves of the bolt is correct.

It looks like it once had a front sight cover which did some significant scratching, and the mag floorplate took a little beating, too. Barrel band has some typical finish loss. The gun is obviously used, but not terribly abused. Stock has lightly worn finger grooves and a few dings, but does not appear sanded or heavily refinished with excess coats of linseed oilicon. Overall, I think it is still a 90-plus% gun.

Some pics for you. Thanks for looking.

Congratulations on a nice find. From my experience I believe less than 5% of the M2 Rifles escaped refinishing. Finding one with the mid 1930's parkerizing still on it is especially good luck.

Thanks, Hershel. Coming from you, I understand the gravity of the compliment!

I had one of these on the wishlist for a few years (or M1922, MI, MII). I had seen some at shops and shows, but either the money or condition wasn't right. So, when I stumbled across this, it was exciting to see all the right markers at a decent price, and I couldn't let it get away.

    NES'er eh?

Nice trainer! There is a good book, "U.S. Martial .22RF Rifles" by Batha well worth the purchase. My goal is to get all the WWII ones.

I just got one on gunbroker, he had the Weaver side mount scope mount on it and a Simmons 4x32
BUT he also had the original rear buckhorn sight on it and from what I have read most of those are missing. It had Britishicon proof marks and I think I did ok at $355

I took it to the range and it shoots real nice

Congratulations on a great find. Your going to love it at the range. A 1922 is what started me down the slippery slope of military trainers.

Good one Martin---I would not have left the gun shop without it either.
