Remington 870 riot guns from the kansas national guard

Today at my dealer I picked up a Remington 870 wingmaster riot gun It is from the 1960s 2 3/4 chamber it has a deep blue finish, walnut stock, adjustable rifle sites. On the pistol grip is a sticker that says Kansas adjutant office and has a 1960s factory leather sling. Supposedly there were 200 of these guns that were purchased by the state of Kansas in the 1960s and given to the adjutant generals office in case of civil disturbance and were stored in armories of national guard MP units around the state for the last 25 years and were recently sold by the state. has anyone ever heard tell of these riot guns? they were very reasonably priced

There's a whole mess of 870 Police/Govmint trade-ins around here too. Picked up a Police Wingmaster 18' barrel without an extended mag tube, 80's vintage a few weeks ago myself. No clue from where it came. I have way too many shotguns now, before it was just a lot. One for the truck, one for the backdoor, one for the front door, two for the bedroom, one for the hall closet, one behind the fridge, and few more I have hidden around the house. :mad smile:

About 6 months ago it was S&W Model 65-1's and the shotguns. The revolvers are all gone now.

And here are a couple of them right here---

    Rear sight detail---

Front sight with the brass showing---

All of them have this melted finish thing---

This is supposed to be a reaction to the red felt used to line the rack in which these guns were stored. One of the guns actually had bits of red felt stuck in the gummy area.
Anyway, the shop had 82 of these last weekend and as of Saturday afternoon, 1/2/2016, we are down to 8.
The majority did not have the Kansas stickers.
    I chose mine for condition.

Yes, it seems that in 1968, Kansas was concerned that violent Hippies were about to attack.
    This was a misapprehension.
Hippies, violent or otherwise, do NOT want to be in Kansas.
    Ever.
The lack of Hippies and subsequent lack of use explains the outstanding condition of most of these handy little suckers. The others were just dinged up getting in and out of trucks.

Here's mine. Again, it's of unknown origin but it is one of the surplus shotguns on the market right now. Somebody had a huge stash from all over the fruited plains.
