How are they deactivated ? The M1icon appears to have the original finish, are they Savage or Auto Ord ?

Bolts are welded in place, barrel is plugged, upper and lower receivers are welded together. They were both made by Savage. I think they are both original finish, but the M1A1icon is very worn, while the M1 is barely worn at all.

I had an M1icon with the floating firing pin...many years ago. Long gone now though.

For those who don't know, the floating firing pin, that Jim is referring to, is the main difference between the M1 and M1A1icon. Here is the M1 bolt:

    Here is the M1A1 bolt:

Note the lack of hammer, hammer pin, floating firing pin and firing pin spring in the M1A1 bolt. In its place is a hardened permanent protrusion on the bolt face. The M1A1 bolt is simpler and more reliable, but prone to the possibility of firing out of battery.

Some closeups of the deactivation welds:

The M1 upper and lower receivers are welded at the rear, the M1A1 upper and lower recievers are welded at the breach.

Too bad they have to be de-activated. I'm glad mine isn't. Anyone know where I can get some 20 round G.I. mags for a reasonable price?
