A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Agree with Bill and Stu. It would appear the NPM/FJA has been gone over, with the CC newly applied. The rear sight could be OK. JMHO.

Front sight belongs on an early Underwood or Rock-Ola. Rear sight is suspect. The staking of the pin is wrong. CC is definately bad. Lots of good parts, but not particularly correct.

Front sight very well could be from a request for shipment from Rockola dated 7/30/43. The 3rd interchangeability test on 15 Aug 43 puts the serial number,barrel date and front sight request on a close relationship.

As long as the stamp is that far off from the real thing, we have little to worry about. To me, whatever value that carbine had, has now been lost by that one stamp.

I agree that the REAL value is lost.... however, "those" carbines will still be auctioned off to the highest unknowing "gotta-have-a-gun-now" buyer. The market gets inflated, which encourages something to be faked again and more non-replaceable historic pieces will get destroyed. I can't wait until some unknowing buyer gets deliberately mislead into bidding more than $10,000 for a faked M1a1 Inland, then discovers it and charges are filed for fraud. I think $10K is the threshold in a lot of jurisdictions...
