A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. What's the best guess on serial range?

There was an article in the GCAicon Journal on s/n 189209 that had a revision 2 operating rod (with single keystone spring too) reported as original rifle from my friend Norm in MN

There are two notations in Campbell's Notebook about the rod in that general area: in November 1940 he says "First rifle with new tooling on op rod" and in December he says "First rifle with new tubing used on op rod." I don't see a structural change on the -2 rod, so I'm guessing the drawing mod concerns method of construction, not shape. It sounds like simply a different tubing.

I picked up a -1 and -2 rod, both modified with the early style relief cuts.....both on restoration projects now....-1 on 86xxx, and -2 on 190xxx.
There is a cut -1 on GB right now.
