    Jeep Gun Rack

Is the Gun rack which often seems to be fitted longitudinally on the inside of the windscreen on most WW2 American Jeeps intended for a specific weapon such as a M1icon Carbine or Garand? Or is it a universal rack intended for what ever rifle the occupants happen to be carrying at the time they are using the Jeep? Was the Jeep intended to always carry a rifle in this rack while the vehicle was in use in a warzone or was the rack just there so that it could be used if needed? Many thanks for any information.

It was just one way to mount this rack and there were several available. The driver would be issued a carbine and needs a place to secure it so he can access it.

The one in my 1952 M38 Canadianicon is the same as the U.S. version and will hold pretty much any service rifle from a No.4 to M1icon Rifle or Carbine.
