British army dump site - Superb Lewis MG relic

    Hi All

Many thanks to the landowner for giving me the OK for a trip to my Britishicon army dump site permission last Wednesday. A great dig with plenty more to add to my collection, including some more brackets from a BESA case catcher bag.

One item was a first, and a very VERY nice item it was. Trigger and grip from a Lewis MG Everything else I've seen before from the site, but not a Lewis trigger

Still cannot ID the item I have taken 3 shots of from various angles. It has been suggested it is an attachment for launcher an Energa grenade from a Lee-Enfield, but I can't find a picture of anything that looks like it. Any thoughts? Hate being beaten by a bloody relic......

Oh, and the little block of metal I think is an action from a Remington Rolling Block.

Video of the dig can be found here.....

Everything I took home, before cleaning

    Attachment 69967

The unidentified part. I have more than 10 of these things now and they are driving me NUTS! Anyone know what they are?

    Attachment 69978

    Attachment 69977

    Attachment 69979

various buckles from webbing and slings, (springfield, Kerr, LE......)

    Attachment 69976

Brackets from a Besa case catcher bag

    Attachment 69975

Lee-Enfield butt plates and what I believe is the remains of the action from a Remington rolling block.

    Attachment 69974

    Lee-Enfield nose caps

    Attachment 69973

Lewis MG pistol grip and trigger. Fantastic find

    Attachment 69972

    Browning M1917 cloth belt starter tabs, 5 303s and 2 30cals.

    Attachment 69971

Starter tabs from Vickers MG cloth belt

    Attachment 69970

Connector to fit the condenser pipe to the water jacket of a Vickers

    Attachment 69969

    Same thing but Browning M1917

    Attachment 69968

    Hope you like the finds.

I have the same affliction. I found myself near the ammo cooker in the sand dunes of Camp Wainwright one Saturday afternoon and you'd be surprised how long one can spend digging like a dog, with his front paws. Then too, how much stuff, like AP bullets can be found. I still have some today. That was in the '80's...

I used to have a problem when in the field, I'd be walking around looking down...specially if we were out in the US bases. Once downrange, where they don't go...there's scads of stuff.
