    Need some recommendations

I have a Remington 513 TR that I wish to take out from the back of the stack and do some shooting with it this summer. The eye sight is not what it once was and I hope to install a scope. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get a set of scope bases for it and what scope you might recommend.

I remember reading a good number of years back a few of you even made your own bases. I should have printed the posts but my printer was not working at the time and of course, the eye sight was still very good.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

    John

If your rifle has the barrel d&ted for scope blocks, you should contact Ken Viani about one of his mounts: ken1855@hotmail.com I am a big fan of the Viani mounts. Here's a photo of one of his mounts for the H&R M12:

    It uses already existing holes.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

weaver made bases for the 513, the above mount mentioned may also work but if you don't have holes already drilled you'll have to get that done for either. Redfield also made a scope base for the 513 I sold one to a friend in Ohio last year. I assume that you want to use a conventional scope not a target type like lyman etc, they would use two bases one on the front receiver ring and one on the barrel. As for scope I like the 2-7 Leupold rimfire compact. but there are many cheaper scopes that are just fine.

I use a Leupold 4x rimfire scope on the one scoped .22 (.22 WMR) I own. It is an excellent little scope and I recommend it highly if you want a fixed power.

Thanks to all for the information. The 513T(R) that I have is factory drilled and tapped for bases and came with the Redfield Sight (2 postitions)and Globe Front with mulitple inserts. The "R" indicated the Redfield Sights.
It is also marked "Matchmaster" on the heavy barrel. The stock forend has about 6 different positions as I recall for the front sling attachment.

I would like to put a target style scope on it that was featured during the mid 1950's if at all possible. Was not smart enough to purchase a new Unertl Target scope at $116.00 in 1964 when I had the chance. One of few regrets that I have today.

If you mean it's d&ted for a Unertl/Lyman type external adjustment scope, I don't think there's been a scope made in the last 20 or more years that fits these. The Lyman, Unertl and even some Redfield scopes are great, but long out of production.

If you want the nostalgic look, that's the way to go.

If you want to use a modern scope, then I still recommend the Viani mount. You can get a modern scope to mount with no extra holes needed.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

The Medina gun show is this weekend. I usually see a few Unertl scopes for sale in the $450-$600 range.

Thanks Bob, I think I will give it a try and see what I can find at the Medina show. I haven't been there for a couple of years. Should be an interesting weekend.

I did check the Weaver Web Site today and they still make the bases. So that is another option.

And a second thanks to you Ed for giving me a second option for scope attachment. I have Kens e mail saved for contacting him.

I have a 513T that I bought new in 1953. It is drilled and tapped for an Unertl or Lyman scope of that era. I recently got an Unertl off E-Bay and have it mounted on the rifle. It is a 10X scope and it is a pleasure to shoot. I believe I got the blocks from Champions Choice. The scope looks like it belongs there. It makes a nice set up.....Slim
