I disagree for the most part Seaspriter. The fakes and bitzers have a large quantity of marked parts because the parts are available as spares. In any case, these parts are made all over the place. And down to earth Armourers like me just use the next suitable part on the shelf or tray. Like parashooter says, for the most part they're just passing stage inspectors or examiners marks. Experience will tell you what you have. You don't really need an MG badge to tell you that the car is an MG and Lucas parts were used on MANY cars - just like M47 marked parts were used on many weapons. Just my view of course.
The point is that we've had a LOT of these '.....what's this mark(s) stuff lately and the answer is always the same
Ah, but, Peter, it's only because you already possess that knowledge that you know a lot of that knowledge is not worth knowing. Know what I mean?

But really....., what earthly use is it to know that a letter M over a small B-3 relates to Gerald Sniffwaite who was a temporary inspector during the absence of Arthur Brockbank. Gerald was the son of the Church organist at St Ethelreds church at nearby Aston and both sang in the gospel choir at Smethwick while he wasn't working the night shift at BSA. His team manager was........
so you have know this stuff all along and have just been holding out.

He ain't been back so we can only assume that TCC is yet another of the many transient lurkers who home-in, pick our brains for what little we can provide and leave........ The Bren forum is another with similar transient passers by who ask lots and return zilch.......
As for buying a well researched book or even a small booklet on the subject, Rob..... it's not going to happen!

May be wishing to sell it later on and show prowess at picking others brains to show the prospective seller they are really on the ball with knowledge of this type of firearm and woooo them with this knowledge and jack the price, jungle carbines seem to have a high premium well at least here they range from $900 ~ $1500+/AU depends on the seller and the condition of the weapon.

Well I bought yours! Or at least two of them anyway.
Keep spreading it around; some of the seeds do germinate.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.
