The breech blocks and other DP-ised parts were copper plated to a depth of .004". This occasionally caused problems because it could total .008 or so and in some cases this extra width or diameter could make for a very tight fit especially on the piston extension guides where it ran in the body.

The 7.62 x 51 barrels are moving forwards by the way..........[/QUOTE]

Will they fit a .303 bolt like the South African barrels do or just a 7.62 bolt like a real L4?

That ain't even been discussed but I would imagine at this VERY early stage in the proceedings, they'll be formulated for the 7.62mm L4 type guns/kits that are available in kit form. that were discussed before I threw the ball into the ring.

Peter......Not sure how much, or even IF, you want to/can discuss the issue.....but by my count now there are, at least, three different 7.62MM BBL projects under way??

That makes two distinct "L4 profile" type projects, and then the one I have been discussing which is the re-pop of the "classic" profiles for Mk II barrels, but chambered for .308W and cut to use the std .303 bolts, unmodified. These are the "New South African" style, I'll call them......

I didn't jump into the discussion earlier of "L4 style" new barrels, because I feel that this is really two distinct avenues of pursuit going on here. Projects to cover both the actual L4 desires, and then just new-made "old style" barrels but updated in the more reasonable choice of chambering for .308W.

You'll notice of course that this provides two distinct issues for choices of "correct" bolts to use, then too.

I have passed the project I was involved on to the actual house that will be cutting and marketing them, so I am now out of the loop on that one. Last I heard, there were to be new-made magazines too, on the ZB39 profile optimized exclusively for the 7.62NATO M80 specs, they were down to choosing between MetalForm or North Central Stampings......probably based upon pricing is my guess.
