Registered Members who use the site for free are entitled to upload and store pics on the site's server as attachments in posts, up to a maximum of about 128 Megabytes of server space per member.

Any free Registered member can tell how much space on our server their pics are consuming, by looking at top of the file attachment manager window, each time they attach a pic to any post or thread,

    Attachment 71027
    (Click PIC to Enlarge)

Contributing Members (click here) are entitled to unlimited picture uploads and file storage to the site.

Both membership classes may manage their picture storage under User Settings (click here), which can be be viewed by clicking the link titled Settings at the top right corner of the web site.

Once you select and view your personal settings, you can select Attachments and delete attachments you have used in past posts, to free up space for more post attachments.

Unfortunately, when you delete attachments you’ve previously posted under past threads, it may confuse and create contextual problems for other members reading your old posts, particularly if they don’t realize you have deleted previously posted pictures, however, that is your decision.

Although it's entirely your choice, since both of you are such a prolific participants on the site and post a lot of content for the benefit of all members, perhaps consider becoming Contributing Members and enjoy a substantial wide variety of other benefits.

    Contributing Members

Although the Military Surplus Collectors Forums are FREE to everyone interested in our chosen hobby, members of this special group are people who have graciously chosen to voluntarily donate a nominal amount of money, to help defray several thousand dollars in annual system bandwidth, server, disk storage and maintenance costs.

This group of members receive additional recognition and access capabilities to MILSURPS.COM, such as a colored "Contributing Member" banner panel under their name, a unique color display of their chosen username, unlimited picture uploads and file storage on the system, ability to delete their own posts, a substantial increase in private message storage to 2,000 PM's, plus other general priority based conveniences. In addition, Contributing Members enjoy value added services such as no limits to classified ad posting in the Quartermaster Stores (click here), plus substantially increased on-line image storage hosting for their personal pictures in the Photo Gallery (click here) area of the MILSURPS.COM server (similar to PhotoBucket). One of the most appreciated benefits of being a "Contributing Member", is that this membership level is NOT exposed to reading Google Ad-sense, or other types of banner advertisements on the site. Finally, they have full access to the private Milsurps 'Team' Forum, a private forum for the Milsurps Advisory Panelicon and Contributing Members, where we make available private downloads of military history magazines, books and other gun related publications, as well as show high quality full length feature films, not available in the general public forums.
The other choice any free Registered Member has, is to use an external photo storage site such as PhotoBucket, then use the IMG (put picture link here) [/IMG] image tags to display them within your posts. The difference is that when a member views your pics in your posts here, those pics will be retrieved from your chosen Internet external photo storage site and shown, as opposed to being retrieved from your personal attachment storage on our servers.

Hope this helps explain things for you guys, as well as others who may not have discovered their own personal settings area, which each member can manage themselves.

    Regards,
    Doug (and Deb)

There should be a checkbox beside each attachment picture.

There may be a software issue with free Registered members being able to delete pics from posts, but I'm not sure. Perhaps it was designed that way to protect integrity of past threads and posts.

I know I can see it, but of course I have Admin privileges.

I'm currently traveling on business, but I'll check it when I get home.

In the interim, perhaps link to your pics in new posts from your PhotoBucket account, or whatever hosting service you use for your pictures?

    Regards
    Doug

    Picture issues

Thanks Doug, another issue I am having is uploading any photos. I've been a member for a number of years, and a past contributor, but I have never had issues with uploading photos. When I select upload, each photo slowly displays an error. Nothing is uploaded. It has always worked for me before. Maybe I have forgotten something, but it seems to work until I try to upload. --Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure how to help you with that problem, as I just tested it here using 4 different browsers... Safari, FireFox, MS Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. They all worked fine uploading multiple pics of different types.

I notice you're using FireFox 45.0 running on Windows 10. Have you recently upgraded either of these? The site's Advanced file up-loader software uses Java/Flash to handle the uploads. Are these add-ons current and active (not blocked) on your computer?

Here's a bit of a primer on how uploads work on our site..

First, there are two kinds of upload capabilities available, Advanced (select multiple files simultaneously, use drag and drop with mouse etc..) and Basic (select files one at a time). When you select Manage Attachments to upload files and attach them to any post, you start with the default Advanced screen. Using your personal Edit Options (click here) page, you can set which back and forth as to which method is your personal default.

    (Click PIC to Enlarge)

You can also select and switch to the Basic method of uploading from the Advanced screen, even though your default may be set as Advanced.

This is the Advanced screen and you can switch to the Basic method while viewing it.

    (Click PIC to Enlarge)

This is what the Basic screen looks like after you've selected that method while viewing the Advanced screen.

    (Click PIC to Enlarge)

Have you tried uploading to our site by selecting and using the Basic screen uploading method?

Finally, I need a LOT more information to trouble shoot your issue much further. When you say ... When I select upload, each photo slowly displays an error. Nothing is uploaded., do you actually mean it's a red exclamation mark ! as in this screen pic?

If not, please provide a step by step sequence of what you're doing and if you wish, email that to me (with pics of the problem) to badger@milsurps.com.

Hope some of this helps you ..

    Regards,
    Doug
