Really abused Type 99

I liked the idea of a 30-06 but after researching it decided it wouldn't really be beneficial. It's not like I'm ever going to shoot it much anyway but cutting up more parts in the magazine well to make it work just didn't seem like the way to go. That was the deciding factor I think. Not that I couldn't do it but I really don't like destroying more parts. Barrel appears to be the same type, chrome lined, identical front sights.

I have a new bolt body on the way also so I just need a stock now along with the associated barrel bands, etc. Unbelievable how much some of them are bringing on Ebay. I could buy an entire rifle for those prices.

Thats because there is a limited supply and the entire rifle is near worthless without it!

If I were you, I'd find a lightly sanded or varnished stock for cheap and refinish it to look original. Mahogany 225 under orange shellac looks very close to the nagoya orange/red finish

I know the feeling! But as you saw from my 38 carbine thread, it pays off in the end if its what you like to do

IMO the compulsion to reserect turns out to be great fun which is somewhat offset by the financial consequences.

if you want a 30/06 toy let me know find you a sporter quick. better some time to cut them up an sell part you would make enough to buy the right rifle

Step One: Bolt arrived and replaced. Barrel should be arriving soon. Have to work on that one for a bit. A barrel vise I can make pretty easily, the receiver wrench is going to be more challenging. Looking at them, I assume the bottom portion needs to be custom made for each type of rifle. I am not in a rush so this should be a long "fun" project.

If I make the action wrench using the same basic concept of the barrel vise, the bottom would attach with two bolts. That way it could also be swapped out with another for a different type rifle. Then again, I might shop around for one. This is a lot more complex than the barrel vise.
