interesting marking on M3 SMG magazine pouch

I have had these pouches for a long time in storage and noticed the markings CASE, CAL 45
SUB M.G. CLIP D-90242. Seems odd that the word "clip" would be used ?

The best explanation I have seen for the use of “CLIP” on these pouches is that they were issued through the ordnance system for M-3 SMG equipped tanks, not the quartermaster system that issued load bearing kit for soldiers.
