As promised here are some pics of my HT rifle as a comparison to the N03(T).

The scope and rifle (53234) are matched but the case is numbered to rifle 32174 so if anyone knows who the owner of rifle 32174 is I'd be happy to swap cases if he has mine.

Is the butt stamp R over MA over the date the norm? I've always thought the R meant refurbed.

A quick look at the survey pics, of a bit over 20 different rifles with clear pics of the butt markings, the "R/MA/date to store" outnumbers "MA/date to store" about 4 to 1. In the survey questions, of the just over 40 out of 210 that answered in a way that allowed me to determine if R/MA or just MA was used, the split is also about the same, 4 to 1.

I take the R to mean refurbished/ rebuilt/ repaired as well... I suppose it depended on the bloke doing the markings as to what he put on them, there was obviously no hard and fast rule... none that was obeyed anyway.

I've noticed that the R is a larger size than the original MA and varies in position, indicating that it was stamped after the original MA/date, probably when upgraded to HT.
But as the rifles themselves are of varying dates and mostly with replacement butts, it is difficult to work out, most HT's being converted from H rifles.
How many if any retain their original or 1930's butts?

From what I have on file, the date stamp on the butts are the date the rifle was sent to store after conversion to HT.
I hadn't paid any attention to the size of the letters before, and am away from my files ATM, but here is one pic with the same prportions in the stamps to consider...Attachment 71560
