Has anyone in the UK recently bought one of the Special offer New spec MK V Sten Guns from D&B ?

Only ask as I just wonder the quality, of the wood work on them?

I did think about it Geoff, but although £250 is cheap as chips, I still cant bring myself to buy one that's been welded solid .... I have a superb 1988 deac Mk2 thats been beautifully and very sensitively deactivated, clear overbored removable slotted barrel and the bolt has only had the fixed firing pin removed and the cartridge supporting area directly behind it fractionally skimmed away, so 99% of the breech block is intact.

I was hoping to add an old spec Mk3 and 5 to the reference collection, but that's now out of the question thanks to the "******" EU

I feel the same ......and also about a welded up Sten, but its more to do with the future, I,ve been looking on and off for a Matchless G3L or a BSA M20, so a Sten would put the finishing touch to it (they would be Military Bikes), although I,ve just spent a lot of the Bike money on another lathe........

Although not much fun a new spec Deac, the bolt handle does move and the mag housing. If the new proposals do come in regarding the mag being welded then the post and packing will certainly go up.....

Think they will be a bit rough but nothing a bead blast, phos tank and some suncorite would sort.

Arrived today, don't get me wrong I was't expecting a concours example but had a sliver of hope it wasn't welded up to the gunnels and full of rust......
They are well used,slight rust and for anyone into matching numbers then not your cup of tea, but its all there and to be honest for the price its very reasonable, it does strip down to the bare bones, the trigger does move and it has a section of tube drilled to take the bolt handle which operates etc, ( I couldn't operate the bolt handle as the tripping lever was jamming it, after stripping it was obvious it had been put in the wrong way round) the obvious bits have been welded, barrel, a section of bolt, the sear and change lever.

Must admit its a lot better than expected, and with a bead blast, phosphate and a spray of suncorite it will scrub up well. (the added bonus its a walnut butt)

A few pics as it arrived, stripped, slight clean and rebuild, for anyone in the UK they are still available (in fact quite a lot of them)........

Well done Geoff,

It's no were near as bad as I feared it might be and it will come up a treat when finished in your capable hands. I pondered on an old spec one for £850 just before the cut off date, but I unfortunately fiddled while Rome burned and missed out!

An indication of previous users, clearly been in store for a very long time, India perhaps??

I was going to build an old spec Sten collection, but will have to settle for my Mk2 Sten now..

At least you can get them up and running again Vincent, I,m afraid over here once they are chopped there chopped for life..... unless you want to do a long stretch and I like my freedom too much.

Things where or about to change here for the worse and was suppose to be on the 8th of this month, but I haven't heard anything and looking around Deacs are still for sale......... can anyone in the UK shed any light ?

Morning Geoff, the whole thing is a complete mess isn't it, as I understand this sorry situation as it stands now, all previous deactivation specs are superseded by the new "EU" spec and new EU certificate. Old spec examples are grandfatherd and can no longer be sold or transferred, thus side stepped any compensation payments!

Apparently non of the above is ready yet and the EU is still debating changes and amendments .. But the Home Office is insisting on full implementation of the act as it stands as of the 8th of this month.

The predictable result is chaos and damage (probably the intention) to perfectly legal business's. All completely pointless and irrelevant, with no basis in fact regarding defending us from terrorist's ... What idiot thought this rubbish up! Very much looking forward to leaving the EU, we can only hope. Not that this will change anything, our government never repeals any changes to the firearms act, this will be no different I am sure.
