Experimental M1 Carbine magazine pouch, Viet Nam War era

Has anyone seen these type of carbine magazine pouches before?
I believe these were experimental pouches made at the US Army Natick labs in the 1960’s-1970’s, probably for Special Forces. They are essentially sterile with the only identifying mark being a company name on the back of the ‘lift the dot’ type fastener.
The material appears similar to the experimental M60 ammunition carrier (Stanton’s book on U.S. Army Uniforms of the Viet Nam War, page 157).

Any information on these pouches will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    AR-15/XM16 magazine pouches

Your pouches are for the AR-15/XM16 waffle magazines not carbine magazines

    Thank you!
I had not seen these before.
What can you tell me about them?
Why are they called ' waffle'?

    Thumbs up

Yep, M16icon 20 rd mag pouches. Don't know if they were only for SF, but we had them in 1969.

+1 to RCS... Here is a photo of them in use in Viet Nam by Air Force types, note worn upside down on rear of belt. They came in a soft fabric and a water resistant style. RCS's photo shows soft fabric type, and the scarce 'waffle' AR15/M16icon magazine.
