Morris vehicles and Daimler Armoured Car at Cobbaton Combat Museum

I photographed these vehicles on a recent visit to the most interesting Cobbaton Combat Museum near Barnstaple, Devon, Englandicon. They also have an extensive small arms collection in addition to their many other exhibits and vehicles etc. With many thanks to Tim from the museum for giving permission to me to use the photos taken inside the museum on this Forum.

To be really honest and truthful, but it's got to be said........ but....... Those dusty bird sh...... muck splattered vehicles in a nissen type hut don't look museum quality to me. Sorry to say it........ But they deserve better.

They need to take a lesson from Alpaca Andy and his half track and the man from Qld with the Australianicon grand old lady, the magnificent Centurion

    Jim,
I think that it is a Daimler Armoured Car, not a Ferret.
This is one from another museum
    Regards,
    Charlie

There was a similar Daimler Armoured Car outside the T.A. centre in Swindon for many years in 8th Army colour scheme: I don't believe that it is there any more and I don't know what happened to it.

Agreed, after I found the Ferret was also made by Daimler.

The Daimler Dingo and first Ferrets were made at Challow, a little village close to here. I think the Daimler from Swindon was a seized-up non runner and ended up as a hard target.

Slight correction..... The Daimler from Swindon is now outside the tank park at Harman Lines on Salisbury Plain

Half a century ago, my girlfriend's extended family (all of whom had immigrated from London after the war) invited me to have Christmas with them. After the dinner, the men-folk had brandy (my first Benedictine brandy) and a chat. The chat with that generation turned as usual to the war. Two of her uncles were veterans of the Desert War and knowing my interest told me that they had been in a scout car squadron. They told me that what they would do is drive into the enemy lines and radio everything they could see while the scout car, apparently a Daimler, was being shot to pieces around them, and then limp back as best as they could.

To this day, I still do not know if they were having me on or what.

They had solid tyres that would hel;p. The down side was that they weren't armoured as such - as in armour plate.
