Keep it as a sporter - rear sight base missing, receiver drilled and tapped, make it a poor "investment" to remilitarize.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I don't want a sporter, and money isn't an issue. If thats a problem here I guess Ill look for stuff elsewhere.

And it does seem to have all the Mark I trigger parts. Not that it matters now, but they are very much there.

Commentors are correct about the financial wisdom (or lack there of) in restoring this one. But it can be done. See here https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=45348
I had very little invested in the sporter and hunted up the missing bitts here and there and enjoyed the challange. Probably a break even proposition in my case because I did not charge myself for the labor but a fun process.

Not too concerned about the cost...I'm not looking for resale value. Laid off, bored and always wanted to do something with it. It had a beautiful Leupold scope on it at one point that my brother stole and sold for 100 bucks In the process he stripped the holes in the receiver and did a bunch of damage to an already crummy finish. Ive parked a few guns here and have good results so that'll be the direction with this one.

So, don't worry about the money fellas...not spending yours. Just asked for parts and some non-financial advice

Once you get the parts together a refinish would be better than trying to buy mint parts. The finish will look fine if you do a complete bead blast and park after. Once you have the full length wood, you can always sell the sporter stock too... Keep at it, the parts are here. As long as that's what you want to do. You say the bore is about perfect? Or what...?

That's the plan! Are those stocks worth anything at all? It's in good shape, and its bedded. The bore is excellent...was filthy (I don't think I've ever cleaned it and I've had it for 10+ year). But after about 40 patches and some JB it's shiny with very little pitting.

Can someone shed some light on this bolt? Has some rough machining on the bolt handle...not sure if this was done after the fact or not?

Obviously your rifle, your choice. However, you may well spend as much or more money on parts as if you'd waited and bought one in military condition or one less sporterized. Not a "problem" to me or anyone else. A lot of us have "been down the road" a few times and are just giving you our take.

Done "after the fact" to clear the scope by a former civilian owner.

Yes, it's a problem because it's done for the rifle that's in it. It'll have to be adjusted, perhaps. Not your problem then. Yes, the bolt has been fitted for a scope as Rick said...

I'd certainly give it a home over here (UKicon) 03's demand a high premium, like BAR says, put up a WLB advert on the site and see what comes your way, I tend to gather up bits over time then go for the build, I've around 6 rifles at present waiting for some parts etc, only difference is I'm on a budget........ but in no rush.
