    Brown Bess Questions

Saw this 39" barreled example the other day but wasn't quite what to make of it. No crown marking, and generally somewhat cruder than expected.

What do you reckon the story is on this musket? Trade item? Something for issue to non-British troops? Or what?

Not in bad shape, considering it's probable age and "prettying up", but outside my area of knowledge.

Perhaps a piece made for private non-military sale?

Here is a 53 pic photo montage of my own 1808 Brown Bess Tower Musket - India Pattern (click here).

It's all correct and all original parts (no repros). I've owned it for almost 40 years …

    Regards,
    Doug

Yours is what I expect to see at least remnants of when looking at military issue muskets. That "Lacy" above verges on being Khyber Pass quality. But I'm thinking it's not.
