thoughts on this no4 mk1 ?T?
this came up for sale yesterday and i was wondering what others think about it. i'm thinking 98% chance it's not an original T (mainly based on it being a Fazakerly serial no.) the scope and mount are not matching and aren't included.
i've inquired but either way i seriously doubt it will be coming home with me. i would just love to hear other opinions so i know what to look for in the future.
thanks.

I saw it on that particular gun site as well Henry and at the price they are asking one wonders about it being legit it is either an expensive faker or a dirt cheap T without a scope........!

It's of, er....post-war construction, & by the shiny appearance of the screw holes in/above the bolt guide way it was 'converted' relatively recently. The bracket may be one of mine, though the photo's aren't great so I can't be absolutely sure.

Yes the crucial pics are just out of focus like the back flats, the screws are not staked and it looks like the back pad is a tad higher than that edge on the receiver

Let me cut to the quick - as I was taught to do by my Australian pals in the 60's. They knew a whole lot about diplomacy as they'd learned it at school and from their parents before they joined up - where they then passed it all on to me. That rifle is about as straight as a corkscrew.

Yes your right Peter Aussies do not suffer fools easily and even less those that try to pull the swifty over them......but pulling the p*ss outa some one is fair game and encouraged here its a way of life especially if you can laugh at yourself.

Odd that all the crucial pics are out of focus on the key bits... Doesn't seem to have any of the required stamps...
How is it being described by the seller?

Also a bit of a give away, they forgot to stake the screws which I am sure Peter told me once was a Tiffys delight when he had completed the job!

I'd say the scope and bracket are originals in original condition, but not original to each other.
The rifle's an old trooper that would have been better left as it was.
Looks like an HBMCo. MkI scope; did you get the serial number?

The same unit was offered on the same site some months ago, with scope and bracket in the $5000+ oz dollars range, although then it was described as a Long Branch for some unknown reason. I have had brief contact with the seller previously and he is well aware the item is not what he is describing it as. When you request clear photos of the relevant "T" markings you are simply provided with more out of focus shots showing absolutely bugger all.
