shortened yugo capture K98k laminate stock?

I bought a complete K98kicon stock set, a laminate WW2 german stock, for a project. When I got it (from a surplus dealer), the handguard was "too long". Upon further investigation, the buttstock has been shortened around 1/2" - making it useless for my project.

Anyone seen this before? The barrel bands have been set back 1/2", so has the bayonet lug and cleaning rod retainer.

Now I need to find a proper cupped buttplate style buttstock to replace this oddball At least all the hardware is still usable and in nice shape.

Anyone got a line on a decent, affordable and usable RC or YC (or whatever) stripped buttstock?

There was a thread a bit back about a '98K from WW1 that need a stock, there was a stock for a WW2 Kar 98 came forward...have a look. I think it was located down in the US but that shouldn't be too bad.

I pm'd him about it. Anyone know why the yugos seem to have shortened some of the capture stocks? Was it to fit an m48 bbl or something?

I'll bet it was exactly that sort of thing. They made their own bayonets so they weren't just altering them...

Claven2, am I understanding this correctly that the Yugo K98icon stock which you have you believe has had about 1/2" of wood removed from just behind the bayonet lug? I suspect that Yugoslaviaicon refurbished quite a wide range of K98 derived rifles post WW2 and this may explain why your stock has been altered?

Yes that is definitely true, it's been modified from the standard pattern by shortening it. The dealer did not notice and tossed in a standard length handguard.

The question is why. There looks to be no damage, so I believe they shortened it to accommodate a rifle variant they were putting together.

How about a Czechicon VZ24 for size in your stock? Can you lay your hands on an example to try for size as I was under the impression that Yugoslaviaicon refurbished quite a few post war. If that doesn't work do you have access to any other K98icon variant? I do have a "spare" but not for sale K98 stock which was sold to me as ex Yugo with the cupped type butt plate and I will, at some point, check this for length.

You will find a vz24 stock 1/2" short for the K98K barreled action as well.

I have a VZ stock her, it's too short and of the wrong pattern for a k98k rear sight assembly. I need a cupped buttplate k98k stock to work for my build project, but it needs to be full length. A decent RC stock would be fine.
