Yes, in fact they had their own variation of bayonet that apparently is quite rare and expensive because every time one shows up on ebay, they go for over $500. It has a clip of some sort that I can't quite figure out from the few photos I've seen, other than that, it looks like a Type30. I think some of the standard bayonets are from Navy arsenals also but not positive on that. Now whether they used them on their training rifles is a question I can't answer. If the black paint was put on this rifle new, then this one's never seen one.
One thing I forgot to mention that those that own one would know but those that don't probably won't is that the cleaning rod is a fake. It's only about four inches long and is held in just by pressure, kind of like a nail.
I just never cease to wonder at all the effort on training rifle by the Japanese. I realize they probably saved some money and some materials but just question the amount of time and factory space devoted to them.

Yes they did. They even had an exclusive contract for them

Looking at the markings on the stock, some of them are a little indistinct, would it be possible to make a rubbing and post a photo of that?
Some paper and graphite, charcoal, or even crayon would also work. Or some additional photos, taken in daylight without a flash.
I can see about 80% of the markings but not quite enough to get a competent return from my little translator.

I'll see what I can do about a rubbing. It's not quite all there I don't think. Probably won't get to it until the weekend. I should have a crayon around somewhere.

I tried a rubbing but it didn't come out too well. Here is my best rendition of what I think it looks like. The rectangle is pretty good, the circle is a complete disaster, it simply is not very clear.

In the rectangle, the top two characters give a return, the one on the top left comes back as "ban" a very close match in the program, and the top right character returns as "Mika" again a very close if not perfect match.
All of the other symbols I cannot find a variation, I will keep plugging at it from time to time.

I found this on another website. Translations are probably:
The circled kanji "教" translates "Education." The kanji in the box reads "Ball Ammunition is Prohibited."

Had to look back and see the context, makes sense as it's a training rifle. No ball ammo allowed...

Yeah, this is an old one. Since we must sit at home I'm participating more in facebook discussions which I usually don't because they tend to quickly devolve into pointless ****ing contests very quickly. In any case, one discussion involved Japanese rifles and I recalled I had posted this one and was trying to verify whether it was functional at all or not. In the process found the translation. Figured I'd update.
