It looks to be in 80 - 90% condition with wear just on the high spots. The grips are replacements. It has the last two digits of the serial number should be stamped on the right side of the locking bolt and is marked Germanyicon with numerous flaming bombs. The "Germany", the marked take down pin and the proof marks all seem to be a contradiction, which implies to me that it is a deliberate fake, although I don't mean to imply that the current seller is the faker.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... I always recommend current research materials as often older research in flawed or incomplete.

On the other hand L-E, thread 12, very often, current research is 99% rehashed and carefully re-written old research, gleaned from the previous books with the extra 1% 'new' material added by the current author. And very occasionally, this turns out to be flawed on closer inspection (Want a good example.....?) And I've said it a zillion times before and will repeat it again. The first person to read your book immediately knows MORE than you. Because he knows all that YOU have written, PLUS the tiny bit he knew before

Quoting serial number batches is absolutely fraught with dangers, believe me............

The "Germanyicon" stamp is not a post 1968 import marking. It's a pre 1968 country of origin stamp. Many commercial Lugers imported to the USAicon prior to 1968 have it.
