Swedish Mauser Front Sight Removal and Installation

My swedish mauser M38 shoots nice 2 inch groups at 100 yds; the only problem is that they are about 15 inches above the aim point. The current front sight is stamped "-0.5," and I'd like to install a taller front sight. I've never attempted to remove or install a front sight...any instructions, tips or recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

A simple drift and tap it out. I'd grab the front end in a padded vise and then there's no play. Just use a big enough hammer and drift to do it. Most use too small both and end up marring.

Try and mark the sight base with the center point of the current front sight.
Use a marker or tape to help get the windage in the ball park.
Much less frustrating than guessing it and being a foot off to start with. - Bill

I swapped out the sight, and it's now shooting point of aim at 100 yds. Thanks for your advice!
