Front blade on #3 is a direct descendant of the sight on the .276 T3E2. Neither of these parts lasted very long or were replaced after the first tests. #3 escaped these mods because it went to APG for tests right after it was made.

I can see why he made it though, just a functional front sight. Protective comes later.
