    M1 '42 Dated Barrel Value?

I have a rifle with a '42 dated barrel that is not orignal to the receiver. The TE is just under 3 and I believe the TE is about 6.5. What is a fair price for this barrel? Anyone interested? I appreciate any and all of your feedback.

    Thanks,

    Tom

From what I have seen, the prices vary a great deal. Some ask $200, some get in the stratosphere up to $500. For my Aug 42, first M-1 by the way, I obtained one in a trade for an M-14 barrel, which I valued around $200.

It looks to me to be a 12-42 which would make it close for application on from 11/42 to I think 2/43??? When you start saying "1943" it just doesn't have that ring to it.

BTW, my last barrel/receiver from the CMPicon was a Spring 42 receiver but a post war barrel. I don't even entertain the chance of getting another early 42 barrel.

    Got other fish to fry.

Refinished?, chrome at the gas port?, import stamps? If "yes" to any or all of these questions, it will detract considerably from the value...and to some extent so will the 6.5 TE......The ME of 3.0 is a wee bit high but not a dealbreaker for someone looking for a WW2 barrel, but if the crown is buggered, that will subtract from value as well.

Without knowing anything but the date, it's hard to peg a price.

Also, value often has a lot to do with where you decide to list it. For instance, you will tend to get more money if you list it on auction sites, rather than putting it on the "for sale page" of this forum. Having two or more people with too much time and money on their hands trying to outbid each other can cause the sales price to go thru the roof for what are otherwise fairly common and/or unremarkable parts.
