In any case M100C apparently purchased this rifle from a licensed dealer using a form 4473 so he is going to have a clear title. I would not lose any sleep over where the rifle came from in the first place.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Nice story, that's about all. Guys were subject to surprise inspections and they were looking for US weapons. Not likely it made it home from the war. Lots were sold off cheap on US bases to returning troops. But not likely was it brought home on a troopship.
